Jake Howells
Howells, a native of Sycamore, Ill., was a two-year standout at NCAA Division II Hilsdale (Mich.) College.
As a 2005 senior, he was an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) second team at shortstop. He was named GLIAC Player of the Week March 28. Howells was seventh in the GLIAC in hitting (.380). He also added 37 doubles, 33 RBIs, 13 doubles and nine home runs. His doubles and home runs total both ranked in the conference top five. The Chargers were 20-22 overall and finished sixth in the GLIAC (14-15). Before redshirting the 2004 season, Howells hit . 294 with 31 runs, 28 RBIs and four doubles as a 2003 junior as the Chargers finished 24-20 overall, 16-12 GLIAC to finish fourth. He spent the 2001 season at Kishwaukee Community College in Malta, Ill., and the 2002 season at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Ill., earning Academic All-American honors
Howells graduated from Hillsdale in 2005 with a bachelor's in history. He completed his master's in sports management in the summer of 2006. Howells is currently the Sycamore sophomore and DeKalb Liners baseball coach.
